There's a Mens Open event at Drift Golf Club http://www.driftgolfclub.com in Leatherhead.

Saturday 21st Aug: 36 holes, coffee and buffet lunch, prizes. Entry Fee £39

Max h/cap: 12

Course gallery on the website looks quite nice and you get one free shot apparently, a par 73

"Sympathetically created in the mid-70's by Sir Henry Cotton and architect Robert Sandow, the par 73 18-hole course is 6,425 yards long and makes use of the mature oak woodlands that it rests in."

James,

Hope you enjoy the course ! It's stood up quite well given the drought of a summer we've had. The greens are certainly doing well, although a few surrounds will challenge your skills off bare lies. We just had the head greenkeeper's report and they're going to be addressing this issue.

Whilst it's home course, I'm certainly not good enough to give a player of your calibre any tips, but it's worth remmbering / checking local rules for a couple of the fairways (e.g. 1st and 2nd) that have uneven surfaces due to recent drainage works - you get free relief from the little depressions if you want it.

Slingshot.

LOL :D

It's not for me - handicap's a squeak to high. Ok, too high by 6.

I'm playing at West Surrey instead, a courtesy round organised by Drift as that's closed for the comp. Nnever been to West Surrey so we'll see how that goes ...

Where are you playing today ?

Slingshot.

I played in a 36 holer yesterday at Cooden Beach (near Eastbourne), the course was lovely and the day as a whole was superb, had a great laugh with my two playing partners for the entire two rounds.

Played today at Hollingbury Park Golf Club on the Brighton Hills, two words describe the course - GOAT TRACK. Thank god we only paid half price! It was foggy when we were waiting to tee off so I said to the asst pro we'd go find somewhere else to play where we could actually SEE where we were going, so we got a half price round - then like magic the fog lifted as we were halfway down the 1st... I almost wish it hadn't! Fair dinkum to the pro, he got some money in the cash register but I'm NEVER going back to that place again, certainly not in this lifetime and I don't care if someone tries to pay me :)

I was about a billion over par on the front and 3 over on the back but it was play there or play nowhere as we tried 3 alternative courses and they were booked until after 3pm.

Live and learn. Of the courses I've played in the Brighton area I'd have to say that East Brighton golf Course (near the racetrack) is the best of a bad bunch.

It doesn't get much better than that :D

Oh dear, it doesn't a lot worse than that. Erase it from your mind ;)

I can recommend West Surrey where I played for the first time yesterday. A little tradiitonal in some if the arrangements such as dress code, a reasonably forgiving amount of space, but an attractive setting and nice quality course. Playing off 18 I scored 31 points, my 10 h'cap partner shot 37 points. We might have done better if I'd not misread the score-card on the 3rd where I thought it was a par 5 - that was the S.I. and it was actually a long par 4. Doh !

Slingshot
