You hit the perfect shot to 6 feet, you're over the putt which you think you've hit perfectly but the put just veers off a touch and slips past the edge... did you ever think it might be the ball?

Apparently up to 30 out of 100 golf balls aren't balanced properly :o That's right, they behave just like crown green bowls with one side heavier than the other or the center of gravity slightly off meaning that the ball doesn't roll 100% true.

There are 4 choices...
1) Don't worry about it.
2) Test the balls that you buy and try to mark them to improve your chances of hitting them straight.
3) Buy Wilson true velocity golf balls.
3) Spin Test your own golf balls.

The Wilson True range are the world's first perfectly balanced golf balls, so they say.
"Perfectly balanced for true flight and putting roll"... apparently.

they come in two styles True Velocity

and True Distance
http://www.golfonline.co.uk/wilson-true ... -6053.html

These are the only balls on the market that claim to be balanced, and yet I can't find any evidence of them on their own website at http://www.wilson.com, besides, I can't claim to know what the characteristics of the ball are like if I haven't played one - I'm going to assume a little hard and clicky but I could be wrong.

Here's an interesting video on Youtube about how to test your golf balls, and how to mark them so that the weight distribution rolls more 'end-over-end', whilst not perfect it should give you more chance of holing the putt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypiL9ao90NM

It doesn't only affect putting... for some interesting reading take a look at http://clubmaker-online.com/golfclubreview.pdf
Would 4 FEET closer to the pin help your game?

I remember reading about this issue in one of Peltz's books. He also discusses the "lump doughnut" around the hole, created by lots of traffic on the greens. It can have a detrimental effect on your line as well.

Slingshot.

i believe that included in his "putting bible"..it's intresting to think that even with the high tolerances from most manufacturers in golf ball production, a certain percentage still seem to slip through the net...

We obviously get more than our fair share of them. I find that some of the balls I buy are also completely deaf ;)

Slingshot
