In this article http://onpar.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/22/plenty-of-give-and-take-on-stack-and-tilt-a-swing-system/ it says :

Butch Harmon, Golf Digest’s top-ranked golf teacher, called the Stack and Tilt “too specific.” He added: “I don’t want to teach a system. I want to teach to the individual. The Stack and Tilt is not for everyone.”

So does he not understand that it's not a system in the way he seems to imply ? I read that as he thinks it's a complete method, rather than a frame of reference ? I would have expected more unbiased analysis from this guy.

There's no doubt Butch is a great communicator / motivator / coach / marketeer.
What defines a good coach?

Referring to his technical knowledge, it wouldn't be fair for me to comment as I've not had a discussion with him with regard to the golf swing. One of my favourite quotes is ''we fear what we don't understand''

Well, I'm sure you're right that he's a great coach which is why I thought he'd be more measured with comments like "I don't want to teach a system".

I do like his commentary on Sky. He seems to be unbiased there given that he has guys on the field. He's certainly always remained professional when it comes to Tiger, as far as I'm aware.

Slingshot.

To answer that, I'd rather see a coach working to a system or even method than one who is not, what pattern are they following!!!
