Played East Brighton golf course on Sunday, boy it was cold up on the hills!
Can't say I played particularly well as I managed to find the Out of Bounds 4 times, and it takes a pretty awful tee shot to find the one on the first!

The fairways were in nice condition (when we managed to stay on them!) 20-30mph winds wasn't great for scoring. On the 3rd I hit a flat out 5-iron from 130yds and found the middle of the green for my first birdie. I admit to not being a fan of blind tee shots, and there were a few. Hitting at marker posts isn't really my idea of fun as I like to see the hole laid out in front of me, and the same goes for the greens, I like to see the ball land.

I'd say it was one of the better courses along that stretch of coast but wouldn't say that it was worth the £35 green fee. We had some 2-for-1 vouchers and suddenly it becomes value for money.

A bit of local knowledge certainly helps as there are giant craters in the middle of a few fairways... and we weren't particularly pleased to find them, especially the 17th which looked out of range off the tee.

Proshop and clubhouse were friendly, you have to remember the number to get out of the security gate! :)

Despite the cold and wind James, I thoroughly enjoyed myself on Sunday and will be returning to play there again, but will wait until the lighter evenings and warmer weather and will book a late teeing off time. A nice Summers evening will be the best time to play there 'cos hopefully the wind will die down a little (it generally does as the evening kicks in).
Playing well obviously makes you see a course in a different light, but I seriously thought there were some great holes on this track, and the turf was superb to hit a ball off.
OK there were a couple of "naff" holes as well, but if all 18 holes were superb it would cost a lot more to get on than the £20.00 we paid!
The 5th (the par 5 where you teed off into outer space) was very unusual and I'd love the chance to play it again. The following hole (par 4 off the yellows, 5 off the whites) was a superb golf hole and would not be out of place on a championship course. A fairly straightforward 5 I would imagine, but a bugger of a 4! Par 3's, without exception, were all testers, especially with the wind as it was. The 17th was a bit "Mickey Mouse" with those two hidden bombholes full of gorse where Ray and Khalid both lost balls, but I think that is purely down to not knowing the course. An iron off the tee next time! And as far as the 18th is concerned. I now know how to play it (I think) and will aim my tee shot way left of the marker post when I go down again.
As I say, I will definitely re-visit. I thought it knocked Lewes into a cocked hat and I would think it will be superb given the right weather conditions.

Yes there were some good holes. Not sure about playing it when the wind is down as it would be defenceless, I'd like to play it when it's a bit warmer though... with maybe a bit of a breeze :)

Can't see myself ever wanting to pay a full green fee there though, and you're right it made Lewes look positively scruffy.

In case anyone is interested the website is here...

£40 midweek for a Day Ticket isn't too bad.
