To be honest I can't wait to see how Ricky Fowler gets on. I think it's excellent that he got a wildcard pick, really living the American dream. Can you imagine that happening on this side of the pond? No, me neither.

There seems to be a lot of optimism, esp. on Sky Sports, almost to the point of assuming the cup's as good as back in European hands, but the U.S. team is stronger than some people seem to realise, despite (or maybe because of) the rookies.

A friend of mine is expecting Westwood to pull out. If he does and there's enough time to get him over (if he would do it) then Casey might fill the gap, but then again Sergio's already in situ as a VC so they could draft him in if it was last minute.

Personally, I think Westy will be there.

I used to think that the European team were just there to get slaughtered, or somehow grab defeat from the jaws of victory, it seems this time that they actually might have a chance if they don't blow it. I reckon because of the balance in the teams this could be one of the most exciting Ryder Cups in history. I'm happy to admit that I'm looking forward to it more than any previous encounter. Good news that Tiger is there, and Bubba, and Fowler, and McIlroy....... and even Dustin Johnson, yep, I can't wait! :)

Good prediction James !

Writing this as the score lies Europe 91/2 - USA 61/2 with the 12 singles matches to play in this curtailed format. Very gripping ! Yesterday was amazing and very bad for the nerves as a specator. I can't even begin to imagine what the players go through :o

What a truly EPIC Ryder Cup battle !!!

I really felt for Mahan at the last though - duffing a chip like that. No one deserves that.

Amazing win for Europre - woo hoo !!!!

Well, well, well, the golfing Gods had clearly read the script!

Tiger shows his teeth at last, Mickelson shows he can remember how to play, even Dustin Johnson turned up at last! Rickie Fowler showed what a superstar in the making he is (if he's not there already). Molinari's half proved vital as did McIlroy's, Poulter handed out a piece of pure adrenaline and Gmac showed that anyone born in Ireland can win a Ryder Cup - you couldn't have written it much better. Everyone in both teams ended up making a contribution..... and in a bizarre twist of fate Tiger Woods was joint top scorer (3pts) with Stricker, just amazing.

That's true but I don't think I could have survived if it had gone down the last, I was already watching from behind the sofa! :)

Definitely lots of behind-the-sofa moments :o

Westy was solid as a rock until he went in the water and that seemed to shake him. Rory wasn't quite at his best. Mahan duffed his chip. There are doubtless loads of other mistakes that armchair critics could point out, but as you imply, the unbelievable pressure is something we can't begin to imagine and I can only marvel at how they performed as well as they did given the circumstances.

It was nice to see gentlemanly conduct and overall the spirit of the cup that was intended.

The only problem I had with Pavin is that he looks like Billy Bob Thornton when he played the a-hole U.S. President in "Love Actually"

Due to circumstances beyond my control, rather than watch it I had to listen to some of the coverage and I have to say that 5 Live did a cracking job of relaying the state of play and the tension.
