.... and played like a total knob!

I'd played pretty well at East Sussex National on Thurs evening, winning a match 4&2 with a handful of birdies and rolled home at 1am after some heavy socialising. Up at 5am and a two hour drive down to Princes left me craving for as many coffees as I could lay my hands on, it was blowing a hooley! 30-40mph winds, and the rain that had just washed out the Ryder Cup was on the way, not nice.

Tee'd off (shotgun start) on the 9th of the Himalayas, snap hook into the cack and I didn't get to see a green until the next hole.... I kinda wish I was back at East Sussex National where the greens had been lovely the previous day, "Not what I had been expecting" would be the best description. It was one of those days when you almost couldn't be bothered to putt, the wind was doing it's best to blow you over, the ball was oscillating as you were putting and the greens were slow and bumpy, not exactly what I had envisaged having never been there before - totally over-rated would be fair summary. I was tempted at one point to pop over the fence to St.Georges and see what their greens were like!

The wind got to full strength as we started the back 9 and even Robert Rock hit Driver, 3wood, 3wood and came up short on the 570yd par 5, to his credit he did chip close and make his par though.

Maybe if I was half awake I could have found some focus and played better but the rain started coming down and it was all we could do to get finished and back into the clubhouse for some sanctuary. It was all a bit rushed and a bit 'couldn't care less'.

Had some interesting conversation afterwards, and he's got a lovely swing - apparently he spent a week with Mac O'Grady and appears to endorse The Golfing Machine. Nice bloke, great to watch him play.... glad he didn't have his caddy lining up his putts for him! :D

I'd give the day an 8/10 and the golf about a 2/10 :)

Certainly sounds like a mixed experience ...

Do you get to play with many touring pros then ? Sounds awesome :)

I wish! It's been an incredible year, played in a match with Danny Willett at Walton Heath which cost me exactly NOTHING and the Pro-Am at Princes was free too as I was invited by a friend, we were just lucky to get Robert Rock as our pro. Also had a special fitting (free) from Ping up at Gainsborough (and a round on their course) AND watched the club being made in the factory! Shame I hit it so badly at Princes! :(

Also shot a 67 which I guess has to be the highlight of the year as one of those might not come along again in a hurry.... hopefully they'll all be 66's!!

I don't know if 2011 will even get close to this year, played some great courses in great company.
