Hi, just joined Golfhappy! primarily because it appears to be the only site expounding the virtues of Stack and Tilt. I'm 60 years of age and play off 9. I was off 6 two years ago and the only improvement I've made in that time has been to increase my inconsistency.

I'm a golf nut, all day every day. Practice and take lessons from the same couple of Pro's regularly. All I've managed to do is get worse. I may be 60 but am very fit and active with no discernible drop in physical ability that would explain anything.

My Pro has got wind of me trying S&T and told me 'not to go near that'. I don't know why! I started about a month ago and right away there was a massive improvement. I started with my wedge and the strike was tremendous. Solid contact and really consistent distance and direction. I couldn't wait to try other clubs. Been to the range 4 or 5 times and on the PG and a little time on the course since then and cannot fault the method.

However, I have a major problem in that I am almost embarrassed to be swinging it like this. To such an extent that I make sure I'm out of the way whenever I go down to the range. I'll get over it. I'm really looking forward to this season and it's been a few years since I've been able to say that.

Regards
Trevorhg

Hi Trevor, welcome to my (your) little corner of the web... think of it as being hidden away down the end of the range :D

Yep, I know that feeling, and indeed that's why I changed - to be more consistent. Scoring is about being more accurate and more consistent.

I don't see why being 60 or 70 or even 80 should make a difference. Normally when you see the more senior players swing a club they sway about so much that you're not sure if they're going to fall over or not, and they could put their back out at any moment.

I used to hide away at the range somewhat but I've gotten over that now. Funnily enough it helps me concentrate when I know I have eyes piercing into my back. Sometimes I even exaggerate the lean to the left (like Mike Weir used to) on my practice swings just to get people talking :) LOL

Where abouts are you from Trevor?

regards
James.

Trevor,

Be proud of your golf swing since your alignments will more than likely be better than that of your fellow golfers on the range!

Hi :)

I'm a bit late to this topic - apologies. I should've come here initially, but posted elsewhere first instead

Anyway, I just wanted to reinforce what James and Sam say.

Firstly, you usually see so much varied nonsense at a driving range that working on S&T technique will only get you noticed 'cos you'll be hitting it so frickin' well !

Besides, a correct S&T swing doesn't look bad - it's just that people are programmed to look for the standard tour swing. My swing's never looked very good frankly and I think it looks a whole lot better now I'm working on S&T.

Secondly, following on from what James says about consistency, surely it's the results that matter ? I doubt that Jim Furyk cares about people's references to his unorthodox swing, especially when he looks in his trophy cupboard or his bank account.

C'mon - let's tell the detractors to go take a hike. The best way I can think of doing this is to take our new swings and then take their money off 'em ;)
